I have one rule when I’m looking at sensitive, reactive skin: remove everything that can be removed.
Every Ingredient Is a Question for Damaged Skin
Healthy skin can take most things in stride. Skin that has broken down is different. It may struggle even with something good. Layering product after product is like handing the skin a whole stack of tests at once. If it reacts, there is no way to know which question caused the trouble.
Simplicity Makes Observation Possible
When your routine is simple, you can read the signals your skin sends. If it flares today, you have a chance of identifying why. If it improves, you can tell what may have helped. Recovery builds on that kind of observation.
This is why I rarely tell people to add more steps. I’m more likely to tell them to cut back. Keep only what is truly necessary, then let the skin do some of the work itself. For sensitive skin, I’ve often found that this is the quickest way forward.
What Simple Means in My Own Formulas
The same rule applies to what I put in a bottle. No preservatives, no artificial fragrance, whenever I can help it — and when a formula genuinely needs either, I say so plainly, not quietly. It’s the same “remove what can be removed” rule, just applied to skincare made for the most sensitive skin I know how to make it for.
